Cycling ‘74 and Ableton to Codevelop New Products

Mar 31, 2007 in Audiovisual / 音楽, New Media Arts

If you are both Ableton live and MAX/MSP user then you must be very excited that they are now codeveloping new products. But according to the CEO of Cycling, it must not MAX 5, but you can probably experience the potential change of its coming version of MAX 5. It must not only a plug-in, perhaps a brand new item, and perhaps not too much expensive.

1st VENICE Cyber Biennale

Introduction of The First VENICE Cyber Biennale

VENICE Cyber Biennale is the first experimental art exhibition which adopts internet and digital space as a platform for bringing together the art works from all over the world.

It is called “VENICE Cyber Biennale” because intentionally we want to compare this new form of art exhibition with the traditional biennale so as to widen new horizons and encourage new art spirits.

Traditional biennale

Traditional biennale has some setbacks in terms of organizational structure and geographical dimension which caused insufficient participation in the international arena that greatly diminished the in depth exploration of artistic trend

VENICE Cyber Biennale

l Breakthrough traditional exhibition’s physical space and regular thinking, offer a chance to exploit a new artistic horizon.

l Observers are composed of various intellectuals, who are with subtle observation and independent opinions.

l Exhibiting works are transparently collected all by internet.

Thus we believe this cyber biennale enables more people to take part in this latest development of international visual art, subsequently changing the current system of art exhibition. This will be an important trend for future concept art exhibition.

Sonic Birth: make your own VST and plug in MAC

Mar 22, 2007 in Audiovisual / 音楽, Technology/ 技術

SonicBirth is an AudioUnit designing application. The first in its category, it allows users to build their own AudioUnit plugins, either by working with existing circuits or by creating circuits completely from scratch. SonicBirth is also a free AudioUnits package, as it comes bundled with a set of plugins designed for standalone use as plugins as well as pre-constructed circuits to modify or build upon for creating new plugins. Whether you’re looking for traditional eqs, compressors, and reverbs, or softsynths, distortion, and filters, etc., SonicBirth allows you unprecedented freedom and creativity over your sound.

SonicBirth is based on a powerful, flexible engine. Every plugin can be used in 32 bits or 64 bits for added precision. Since all plugins share this engine, any improvement in speed will benefit all of them.

NDS, WiFi, MIDI, Serail

(image from http://www.natrium42.com)

DSerial has its version 2 out now.

“It is a card that provides USB client, serial and GPIO ports as well as a 2D tilt sensor. It enables you to interface NDS to MIDI keyboards, servos, sensors, GPS receivers, computers and more.”

It simply turn NDS into an interface with touching panel.

If you wanna play wifi, DSmidiWifi. Just skip DSerial, controlling via WiFi.

With the oldskool hand made MIDI cable, you can connect DSerial with instrutment like syntherizer, keyboard or midi-in enabled devices. But you need a bit basic electronics to make a interface between it. Step by step instruction is here:

May see more and more bands and musician and artists playing live or making work with NDS soon, at least i will try, with US$45 from my pocket.
