PS3的Augmented Reality: Eyepet

其實Sony Entertainment 玩 Augmented Reality (擴增實境) 或 Virtual Reality (虛擬實境) 是早有前科，早在PS2的年代的時候2003年就開始了，就是Eyetoy。這一年到了PS3的年代就出現了這個Eyepet。

不提大家可能不知道原來的eyeToy 本來是在Gameboy上的鏡頭，同期的Sega Dreamcast也有Dreameye。最初是因為Dr. Richard Marks提出要把webcam 連到PS2 的usb 上才有eyetoy的發展。

對於已經看過很多甚至在研究Augmented Reality的讀者來講，eyepet 算不上是甚麼厲害的玩意。這類型以 Computer Vision 作基礎的玩意和研究其實已經好多年。

所以單從技術方面評論eyepet是不公平的。畢竟我們現在不是追求新科技，而是怎樣利用這堆技術發展我們自己的作品，這才算一個設計師或藝術家。否則你還是乾脆跑去當程式編寫員或工程師好了。

可是單單一條影片我們又看不出個瘋狂的互動來。不過讓玩家畫一個公仔然後再控制他倒是很過癮的一件事情。這個想法倒是讓我想起Golan Levin 2006的作品 Drawn。

同樣是讓用家在真實世界中畫了個東西，然後成為虛擬世界的物件。Drawn 更厲害的是物件變成虛擬後，我們還可以用我們真實的行動去控制他，例如用手。這類界乎於虛實和實虛之間的交互很是能讓觀眾進入一擴增實境中。因為物件都是由互動所產生，沒有其他無中生有的物件在干擾你和作品的互動過程。

最近也跟一位新認識的設計師(非常厲害的，是香港首屈一指的設計界人士) 一起玩點Augmented Reality，稍後能發表的時候就寫點東西吧。

yes, I am in Vienna and a Taiwanese, I have a median team in Taiwan called InterativeTech.Lab.(ITL), I am presenting the up-to-day AR tech for mobile application and have contacts in EU for the tech.
